ACS on Campus is coming to the 100th Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition on Monday, May 29 in Toronto, Canada! We're hosting a special two hour session from 13:00-15:00 in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Room 104C. The event is free and open to all CSC conference attendees.

Join us for a panel discussion on how to get published with the ACS Editors. Topics include how to prepare a strong manuscript, choose the best journal for your research, and prepare a cover letter that will get the attention of the editors. Come early to get your ACS on Campus giveaway and a chance to win a $100 gift card. 

After the panel enjoy donuts, cookies, and your hot beverage of choice while mingling with important editors from ACS Publications. Be sure to ask them for tips on publishing your research!

Jillian Buriak, Ph.D.

Editor-in-Chief of Chemistry of Materials

Jillian Buriak has been the Editor-in-Chief of Chemistry of Materials since January 1, 2014. Prior to this appointment, she was an Associate Editor at ACS Nano from 2009 to 2013, and on the Board of Reviewing Editors of Science from 2004 to 2008. Jillian holds the Canada Research Chair (CRC) of Nanomaterials in the Department of Chemistry, at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and is a Senior Research Officer at the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NRC-NINT), in Edmonton. Jillian was born and raised in the Toronto area, and graduated with an A.B. from Harvard University, in 1990, and her Ph.D. from the Université Louis Pasteur, in Strasbourg France in 1995. She completed a two-year post-doc at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, from 1995 to 1997. In 1997, she commenced her first independent academic position, as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at Purdue University, where she was promoted early to associate professor in 2001 (with tenure). In 2003, she became a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Alberta, with a cross-appointment at NRC-NINT, as a Canada Research Chair (Tier I), which she has held since.

Awards Jillian has received include the ACS Award in Pure Chemistry (2003), a Steacie Fellowship from NSERC (2007), an A. P. Sloan Fellowship (2002), a Dreyfus Teacher Scholar (2002), an NSF Career Award (1999), the Rutherford Medal of Chemistry from the Royal Society of Canada (2005), the NSERC Steacie Fellowship, the Clara Benson Award from the Canadian Society for Chemistry (2013), and others. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2009, FRSC), and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2009, AAAS).

Molly Shoichet, PhD

Associate Editor, Biomacromolecules

Professor Molly Shoichet holds the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Tissue Engineering at the University of Toronto.  She has published over 575 papers, patents and abstracts and has given over 350 lectures worldwide. She currently leads a laboratory of 32 and has graduated 157 researchers. Her research is focused on drug and cell delivery strategies in the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, retina) and cancer. Dr. Shoichet co-founded three spin-off companies, is actively engaged in translational research and science outreach. Dr. Shoichet is the recipient of many prestigious distinctions and the only person to be a Fellow of Canada’s 3 National Academies of: Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada, Engineering, and Health Sciences. Dr. Shoichet was the L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Laureate for North America in 2015, elected Foreign Member of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2016, and won the Killam Prize in Engineering in 2017. She holds the Order of Ontario, Ontario’s highest honour, and the QEII Diamond Jubilee Award.  In 2014, Dr. Shoichet was given the University of Toronto’s highest distinction, University Professor, a distinction held by less than 2% of the faculty. Dr. Shoichet currently serves as an Associate Editor of Biomacromolecules in addition to serving on the editorial board of several other journals. Dr. Shoichet received her SB from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1987) and her PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in Polymer Science and Engineering (1992).
