Q&A with the ACS Editors
Kavirayani R. Prasad, Ph.D.

Professor, Department of Organic Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science
Prof. Prasad obtained his PhD in asymmetric catalysis from University of Pune for the work carried out at NCL, Pune. He held post-doctoral positions as a AvH fellow at the University of Muenster, Germany and at Temple University, Philadelphia, USA. After a brief stint as scientist in medicinal chemistry at Praecis Pharmaceuticals (presently Glaxo Smith Kline), Waltham, USA, he joined the faculty at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore in November 2003 where currently he is a Professor. Professor Prasad’s research interests are centered around developing strategies for the total synthesis of natural products of medicinal importance and their evaluation. Prof. Prasad is a recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Chemical Sciences of CSIR, Swarnajayanti Fellowship of Department of Science and Technology and is an elected fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.

Dr. Deeksha Gupta is Managing Editor for ACS Omega and the key representative for all ACS journals in India. She also takes care of ACS Publications’ strategic partnerships and fostering relationship with scientific community in India. She earned her PhD from IIT Delhi and worked as Research Consultant at Momentive Performance Materials (Formerly, GE Silicones) Bangalore. She pursued her Postdoctoral Research at The City University of New York, USA and published research findings in Sciences Advances. Before joining ACS in 2016, she was Editorial Development Executive-India at Royal Society of Chemistry responsible for journals, books, magazine and building relationship with Indian scientific community in India.

ACS connects its members through information, education and collaborative thinking to further the cause of Chemistry. Mona has been working with ACS for the last year 1.5 years and leads ACS’s membership initiatives in India to collaborate and network with local community of like-minded scientists. She has an extensive background in international student services and in working as an infomediary in the international higher education sector. Mona is keen to build stronger and thriving networks of ACS student / professional chapters across the country and in facilitating information workshops and by eminent Chemistry professionals from academia and industry. Mona went to school at JNU, New Delhi and Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.

Ms. Sherin Mary Samji is the Senior Applications Specialist from ACS International India . She holds a Masters in Drug Chemistry and PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights from University of Pune. Before joining ACS International India in 2012, she was part of the discovery chemistry group in Tata Advinus Therapeutics, Pune as research associate Currently, she is responsible for sales of CAS solutions in South India and training the users from Academic, Government and commercial segments on CAS solutions like STN, SciFinder, PatentPak and MethodsNow.
