Matthias Gehringer, Ph.D.
Associate Editor, ACS Bio & Med Chem Au
Full Professor (W3), Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, Germany
Matthias studied chemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier, and the University of Heidelberg. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Tübingen. As a postdoc at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich. He is currently Full Professor and head of the Division for Medicinal Chemistry at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tübingen. He is also a PI in the Cluster of Excellence “Image Guided and Functionally Instructed Tumor Therapies (iFIT)”. His research focuses primarily on covalent protein kinase inhibitors and novel approaches for the covalent targeting of cysteine and other amino acids. He received a variety of awards including the Young Investigator Award of the German Pharmaceutical Society and recently the Phil Portoghese Lectureship Award of the ACS MEDI division. Notably, Matthias is currently heading a European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (EFMC) Best Practices initiative on covalent drug modalities. Valtair S. dos Santos Júnior, M.Sc.
Publishing, Scientific Information, and Outreach Specialist, Latin America, ACS Publications
Valtair has a bachelor’s degree in Technological Chemistry and a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte, Brazil). He is currently a doctorate student at UFMG. He is enthusiastic about natural products chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and cheminformatics, focusing on the computer-aided design and synthesis of new bioactive compounds as potential antimicrobial and antitumoral agents, and on the development of electronic chemical libraries. Since 2022 he has enrolled in ACS Publications, supporting scientists on their needs during their research project journeys, from finding the right article in literature to publishing their own paper, being also involved in ACS outreach programs.
Marina de Souza Melchiors, Ph.D.
Customer Success Specialist, CAS
Marina has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and in Food Engineering from the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC). She received her Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a specialization in Development of Chemical and Biotechnological Processes from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). Post-Doctorate researcher in Polymerization Processes and Synthetic Biology from the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Germany. And, she is currently working as a Customer Success Specialist at CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service, a division of the American Chemical Society – ACS).
