J. Justin Gooding, Ph.D.
Editor-in-Chief, ACS Sensors
Scientia Professor of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales, Sydney
Scientia Professor Justin Gooding graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) from Melbourne University before spending two years working for ICI Research on explosives. He then obtained a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford and received post-doctoral training at the Institute of Biotechnology at Cambridge University. He returned to Australia in 1997 as a Vice-Chancellor’s Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales. He was promoted to full professor in 2006 and Scientia Professor in 2011. He is currently a founding co-Director of the Australian Centre for NanoMedicine, Node Leader for The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Convergent Bio-Nano Science and Technology and Deputy Head of the School of Chemistry. Before being appointed as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of ACS Sensors, he served on the editorial board of the Analyst, The Australian Journal of Chemistry and several other research journals. He leads an interdisciplinary research group of 40 people with students and post-doctoral fellows gaining expertise in areas as diverse as surface chemistry, electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, optical physics, advanced microscopy, surface characterisation, cell biology and nanofabrication.
Yanli Zhao, Ph.D.
Associate Editor, Applied Nano Materials
Professor , Nanyang Technological University
Prof. Yanli Zhao received his B.Sc. degree in chemistry from Nankai University in 2000 and his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from the same university in 2005 under the supervision of Professor Yu Liu. He was a postdoctoral scholar with Professor Sir Fraser Stoddart firstly at University of California, Los Angeles (October 2005 – December 2009) and then at Northwestern University (January 2010 – August 2010), and with Professor Jeffrey Zink at University of California, Los Angeles (October 2008 – December 2009). He received a National Research Foundation Fellowship in January 2010 and then joined Nanyang Technological University in August 2010. The research programs in the Zhao group focus on organic and materials chemistry and branch out into the related fields of biological, physical, and medicinal chemistry. We utilize interdisciplinary approaches to investigate the emerging problems at the forefront of chemistry and materials, aiming to address some of the technological needs, such as responsive nanomaterials, general approach for controlled drug delivery, and sensing devices for medical diagnostics.
