Professor Patrick Couvreur
Emeritus Professor, Paris-Saclay University
Patrick COUVREUR is Emeritus Professor at Paris-Saclay University, member of the “Académie des Sciences” and holder of the chair of “Innovations Technologiques” (2010) at the « Collège de France ». He is a Senior Member of the “Institut Universitaire de France” since 2009. He was the recipient of two grants from the European Research Council (ERC), a highly competitive attribution in Europe. He has hold many important national and international academic positions as Director of the UMR CNRS 8612, Director of the Doctoral School “Therapeutic Innovation” and founder member of the pole of competitivity MEDICEN. During 30 years, Patrick COUVREUR was also Extraordinary Professor at the University of Louvain. He was/is a member of the board of governors of many international organizations and scientific committees. He has been the chair of a panel of ERC. Prof COUVREUR’s contributions in the field of drug delivery and nanomedicine are highly recognized around the world with more than 650 research articles, some of them in prestigious journals (ie. Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Science Advances, PNAS, Cancer Research, JACS etc.) (Web of Science H-index 105). A nanomedicine invented in Couvreur’s lab has reached a complete phase III clinical trial for the treatment of resistant hepatocarcinoma. He is among the highly cited scientists (Clarivate). He founded three start-up companies, one of them (Bioalliance) entered the stock market in 2005. His major scientific contribution to the Pharmaceutical Sciences is recognized by numerous international and national awards (“Host Madsen Medal” 2007, Prix Galien 2009, “Médaille de l’Innovation” of the CNRS 2012, European Inventor Award 2013, Japan Higuchi Award 2015, Prix Achille le Bel 2019, etc.). Dr COUVREUR is also Doctor Honoris Causa of the Universities of Ghent and Montreal. Apart from being a member of the “Académie des Sciences”, he is also appointed as a member of the “Académie des Technologies”, “Académie Nationale de Médecine” and was President 2020 of the “Académie Nationale de Pharmacie” in France. He is also a foreign member of the “Académie Royale de Médecine” (Belgium), the Royal Academy of Pharmacy (Spain), the European Academy of Sciences, the Academia Europaea, as well as the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Engineering, two of the three national academies in USA. He is also an international fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology of Japan. Patrick Couvreur was decorated by the “Légion d’Honneur” (France) in 2018.
Romy Beard
Head of Publisher Relations, Chronos Hub
Romy Beard has nearly 20 years’ experience working in academic online publishing covering various roles from sales, content acquisition, and licensing & negotiations. She has worked with publishers, aggregators, libraries and library consortia, and technology companies. She is the Head of Publisher Relations at ChronosHub, a subsidiary of the American Chemical Society that works with publishers, institutions and funders to make the publishing process easier for authors. Romy also runs ChronosHub’s educational webinars and runs panel discussions at industry events that bring together different stakeholders in scholarly communications.
Monica Azulay, MA
EMEA Account Manager, CAS
Monica joined the ACSI sales team based in Oxford in July 2014. Alongside her Regional Sales Manager reponsibilities in the EMEA region, Monica represents the ACS internationally, fostering the relationship between the ACS and their end-users, authors, customers and stakeholders. She is strongly committed to bringing the ACS closer to the scientific community outside the USA and she fully engages at every opportunity in outreach events such as ACS on Campus.
Paul-André Genest, Ph.D.
Assistant Director & Publisher, ACS Publications
Dr. Paul-André Genest is an Assistant Director and Publisher at the American Chemical Society where he is responsible for the management of roughly half of the ACS journals portfolio and Global Editorial Strategy team. Since 2016, he is an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University where he co-teaches a yearly course on scholarly communication (BIOS 292: Preparation and Practice: Scientific Communication & Media). Previously, he worked as a Publisher and Senior Editor at Wiley and as an Associate Publisher and Scientific Editor at Elsevier. Dr. Genest has a BSc (Biology) degree and a MSc (Microbiology-Immunology) degree from the Université Laval in Québec City, Canada, and a PhD (Molecular Parasitology) from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He held two postdoc research positions at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, The Netherlands before transitioning to the scholarly publishing industry.
Sophie Bergeron
Customer Success Specialist, CAS EMEA
Sophie Bergeron is a Customer Success Specialist with the CAS EMEA team, where she provides technical training and product consulting to customers in France. Sophie is an accomplished patent analyst with many years of experience in conducting rigorous scientific analyses of patents and technical information in global pharmaceutical companies. Prior to joining CAS, she worked at Novartis Pharma in Switzerland as a Senior Patent Analyst for more than a decade. Before that, she also gained experience working at Pfizer, Dow Pharma and Chirotech Tech. in the UK. Sophie holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Poitiers in France and a master’s degree in organic chemistry from the University of Liverpool in the UK. Currently, she resides in Hégenheim, France.
