Featured Speakers
Erick M. Carreira, Ph.D.
Editor-in-Chief, Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS)
Professor of Chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich
Born in Cuba in 1963 and based in Switzerland, Professor Carreira is both the first JACS editor-in-chief to live outside of the U.S. and the first Latin American to lead the journal. Carreira obtained his Bachelor of Science in 1984 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under the supervision of Scott E. Denmark and a Ph.D. degree in 1990 from Harvard University under the supervision of David A. Evans. He has been a full professor at the Organic Chemistry Laboratory of the ETH Zürich since 1998. A self-described “generalist,” Professor Carreira’s current research focuses on a variety of multidisciplinary fields, including natural products total synthesis, synthetic methods, and catalysis to prepare molecules with asymmetric bond construction. He is co-founder of three start-up companies and has been involved in the development of several chemistry education software tools. Professor Carreira is a member of both the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He’s been a member of the American Chemical Society for 37 years and has received numerous awards from the society, including the 2013 ACS Award for Creative Work in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
Géraldine Masson, Ph.D.
Deputy Editor, ACS Organic & Inorganic Au
CNRS Research Director at the Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles, Paris-Saclay University
Géraldine Masson is CNRS Research Director at the Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles, Gif-sur-Yvette, France. Her research program focuses on (1) asymmetric organocatalysis (2) photoredox-catalysis (3) and catalyst design. She received her PhD in 2003 from the Joseph Fourier University, France. She then moved to the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, as a Marie Curie postdoctoral research fellow. At the end of 2005, she was appointed “Chargée de Recherche” by the CNRS at the Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles (ICSN, Gif-sur-Yvette) in France. She was promoted to CNRS Research Director DR2 in 2014 and DR1 in 2020. She has received a number of awards, including CNRS Bronze Medal (2013), Novacap Prize of the French Académie des Sciences Award (2017) and Jean-Marie Lehn prize from the Organic Chemistry Division of the French Chemical Society (2019). She has been an associate editor for The Journal of Organic Chemistry since 2019.
Krystyna Maslowska-Jarzyna, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Researcher/Senior Research Assistant, University of Warsaw
University of Warsaw, Faculty of Chemistry, Biological and Chemical Research Centre, Poland
Krystyna Maslowska-Jarzyna is a supramolecular chemist with nearly ten years of experience in anion recognition and transport. She completed her BSc, MSc, and PhD at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw. Her research focuses on the supramolecular chemistry of anions, particularly the transport of biologically relevant anions across lipid bilayers using synthetic molecular carriers. During her studies, she completed research internships in the USA, Italy, Belgium, and Portugal. After earning her PhD in 2024, she joined the University of Technology Sydney (Australia) as a postdoctoral fellow, working on organelle-targeting anion transporters. Krystyna is a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), and the Polish Chemical Society (PTChem). Her research has been recognized with multiple awards and fellowships, including the CAS Future Leaders Award, the Bekker Fellowship from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), the START Fellowship from the Foundation for Polish Science, and a national scholarship from the Minister of Science and Higher Education. Outside the lab, she is passionate about travel and has visited over 40 countries. Her interests also include creative projects, science communication, mentoring young researchers, and promoting inclusive scientific collaboration.
Dr. Justine Raymond
Customer Success Specialist, CAS
Dr. Justine Raymond holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University Rovira i Virgili in Spain. She has focused her research on developing new small molecule inhibitors for Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), utilizing novel synthetic methodologies and advanced computational techniques. Justine has acquired multidisciplinary expertise in synthetic chemistry, cell biology, and bioinformatics through her work within influential pharmaceutical companies and leading research institutions. Her skills encompass organic chemistry, biochemistry, computational modeling, structure-activity relationship studies, and cell biology.
