Featured Speakers
Thereza A. Soares, Ph.D.
Executive Editor, Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling
Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of São Paulo, Brazil
Dr. Soares holds a Ph.D. in chemistry with major in computational chemistry from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil and a postdoctoral training at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Soares worked as research scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (2005-2009), full professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil (2010-2021) and held invited professorships at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland (2013), Umeå University, Sweden (2016), the National Institute Infectious Diseases, Japan (2019) and University of Oslo, Norway (2020, 2021-2026). Her main research interest is in the development and application of computational chemistry methodologies to understand molecular processes and to interpret experimental observations in soft matter with emphasis on bacterial lipopolysaccharide membranes.
Adelina Voutchkova, PhD
Director, Sustainable Development
Scientific Advancement Division, American Chemical Society
Dr. Voutchkova-Kostal is the Director of Sustainable Development at the American Chemical Society. She joined ACS in June 2023 from a robust academic career at the George Washington University as an Associate Professor in the Chemistry, with a research focus on development of methods that facilitate circular economies through catalysis and designer solvents. Her research has been recognized by a GWU Young Investigator Award, an NSF CAREER award and Rising Star award by the ACS Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference. In addition to research, she has been committed to green chemistry education, serving as co-Directing of the MS program in Environmental and Green Chemistry at GWU, and as curriculum developer for green chemistry coursework through ACS Green Chemistry Institute and the NGO Beyond Benign. She is also Principal of Designing Out Toxicity LLC, a service provider of predictive toxicology tools for hazard evaluation and design of functional and safer commercial chemicals. Prior to starting her independent career, she served as Research Associate at the Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering and obtained a PhD in organometallic chemistry from Yale University with Bob Crabtree. She holds a BA in Chemistry from Middlebury College. Dr. Voutchkova-Kostal is the Director of Sustainable Development at the American Chemical Society. She joined ACS in 2022 from a robust career at the George Washington University as Associate Professor in the Chemistry, with a research focus on developing greener catalytic processes. She holds a PhD in organometallic chemistry from Yale University and a BA from Middlebury College.
Valtair Severino dos Santos Junior, M.Sc.
Customer Success Specialist, ACS Publications
Valtair has a bachelor’s degree in Technological Chemistry and a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte, Brazil). He has researched in natural products chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and cheminformatics, focusing on the computer-aided design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of new bioactive compounds as potential antimicrobial and antitumoral agents. Since January 2022 he has enrolled in ACS Publications, empowering our users on how to explore scientific and technological information to apply on their research and innovation projects, as well as several trainings on scientific communication and publishing.
