Dr. Graham Smeddle
Managing Editor, ACS Publications, Global Editorial Strategy
Dr. Smeddle is a Managing Editor with ACS Publications, where he oversees several leading polymer science journals, including Macromolecules, Biomacromolecules, ACS Polymers Au, and ACS Macro Letters. He holds a PhD in Computational Microbiology from the University of Southampton, where his research focused on computational studies of bacterial membrane interactions with antimicrobial peptides. Graham has over a decade of experience in scholarly publishing as a Staff Editor, managing peer review and journal development across chemistry and computer science titles. His particular interests include research integrity, open data sharing, peer review efficiency, and community engagement in society publishing.
Christopher Pym
Account Manager; Funders, ACS Publications
Chris Pym is responsible for ensuring that ACS Publications provides funders, institutions, and researchers with a smooth path through the Open Science transition. This involves working with research funders to ensure that both infrastructural support and administrative processes are developed to reduce the burden of the shift between the old and the new. Prior to this he has over 20 years of experience in research publishing across both commercial and editorial roles for a variety of corporate and not-for-profit publishers.
Prof. Angela Russell
Department of Chemistry, University of Oxford
Angela Russell is Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the Departments of Chemistry and Pharmacology at the University of Oxford. Her research lies at the interface of chemistry, biology and medicine, focusing on translating discoveries into therapeutic approaches to addresss major health challenges. She has co-founded multiple spin-out companies, including MuOx, OxStem and Kodiform Therapeutics, and has helped advance innovations from the laboratory into clinical development.
Prof. Véronique Gouverneur
Department of Chemistry, University of Oxford
Véronique Gouverneur FRS is the Waynflete Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. Her pioneering work on fluorine chemistry has transformed the synthesis of molecules and radiotracers used in pharmaceutical research and medical imaging. Her research has also led to innovations in sustainable fluorine chemistry. She is the co-founder of FluoRok, a spin-out company translating breakthrough fluorination technologies from the laboratory into industrial applications.
Prof. Robert Hoye
Department of Chemistry, University of Oxford
Robert Hoye is Professor of Materials Chemistry at the University of Oxford, where he leads a research group focused on developing next-generation energy materials for clean energy conversion. Alongside his academic role, Robert serves as Chief Technology Officer of NanoPrint Innovations Ltd., a spin out focused on translating this advanced materials research into high-quality thin film manufacture.
Jhoan Toro-Mendoza, Ph.D.
Managing Editor, ACS Applied Energy Materials, ACS Applied Electronic Materials, ACS Applied Engineering Materials, and ACS Applied Polymer Materials
Jhoan is a Venezuelan physicist, industry advisor, and managing editor currently based in Oxford. He joined the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research at 19, where he started working in colloidal systems, in particular, emulsion stability. He obtained his Ph.D. in physics from the same institute and moved to the USA for a postdoctoral position to complete the analysis of the coalescence of emulsion droplets. He returned to his home country to start his research group and was appointed as the head of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Physics. After six active and professional successful years, due to the situation in Venezuela, Jhoan decided to move to Spain in pursuit of a new challenge, working in protein-nanoparticle interactions and medicine applications. After three years, he and his family moved again, this time to Oxford, where a new chapter began, this time as managing editor for the American Chemical Society.
