Thereza A. Soares, Ph.D.

Dr. Soares holds a Ph.D. in chemistry with major in computational chemistry from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil and a postdoctoral training at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Soares worked as research scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (2005-2009), full professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil (2010-2021) and held invited professorships at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland (2013), Umeå University, Sweden (2016), the National Institute Infectious Diseases, Japan (2019) and University of Oslo, Norway (2020, 2021-2026). Her main research interest is in the development and application of computational chemistry methodologies to understand molecular processes and to interpret experimental observations in soft matter with emphasis on bacterial lipopolysaccharide membranes.
Daniel Alberto Jacobo Velázquez, Ph.D.
Associate Editor, ACS Food Science & Technology
Research Professor, Department of Bioengeeniering, School of Engineering and Science
With over 20 years of experience in food science and technology, Daniel Jacobo works on applying postharvest abiotic stresses to increase the health-promoting properties of fruits and vegetables and transform plant tissues into novel ingredients for the food industry. Daniel Jacobo is also interested in developing foods that can prevent or treat obesity and related diseases and improving the nutritional and sensory quality of food products. Currently, Daniel Jacobo is an Associate Editor for ACS Food Science & Technology. He is also Researcher and Associate Professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he works at the Institute for Obesity Research and teach bioengineering, biotechnology, and food science courses. He is a member of the National System of Researchers (level 2) and the Mexican Academy of Science and have published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Regiane A. Bracchi
Manager – Latin America, ACS Publications
With a master’s degree in information science and extensive experience as a teaching professor focusing on the production, dissemination, use and application of scientific and technological information, Regiane A. Bracchi’s main role as the ACS Publications Latin America Manager is to support the scientific community in the region. This work centers on the development and implementation projects and partnerships associated to the access, use, and application of all ACS resources and solutions, as well as the promotion of opportunities and programs for the benefit of science in Latin America.
Carlos Toro, Ph.D.
Associate Publisher, ACS Publications
Dr. Carlos Toro earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from La Universidad del Zulia, Maracaibo, Venezuela, where he started his professional career as a computational chemist. In 2010, Carlos obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Central Florida, where he used multi-photon absorption spectroscopy to study the nonlinear optical properties of chiral molecules. Afterwards, he held a position as the Ellen D. Williams Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, where his research focused on the study of high resolution transient infrared absorption spectroscopy of molecular super rotors. In Spring 2014, Carlos joined the ACS Publications Division and is now Associate Editor, overseeing nine journal titles with responsibility over their strategic development and management.
Jishyra Serrano
Program Manager, International Student Chapters, ACS
Jishyra Serrano (She/Her) is the Program Manager for International Student Chapters at the American Chemical Society. Dr. Serrano holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Antillean Adventist University and a PhD in Translational Biomedical Science from the University of Rochester, where her research focused on the biological effects of stress during pregnancy and its relation to childhood temperament. After completing her degree, Serrano’s work has focused on managing communities within scientific organizations. She previously worked on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the American Association for the Advancement in Science, and currently manages the 138 International student chapters at ACS.
Becky Monfort
Senior Marketing Manager, ACS on Campus, ACS Publications
Becky Monfort is the Program Manager for ACS on Campus, the American Chemical Society’s flagship outreach program. She oversees events and programs at institutions around the world, bringing leaders in chemistry, publishing, research, science communication, and career development to thousands of students and early career researchers. Prior to joining the ACS on Campus team, Becky managed the ACS international student chapter program, coordinated ACS outreach efforts to international students and faculty in the chemical sciences, and facilitated student programming at ACS and other scientific meetings. Becky joined ACS in July 2017 from Organic Letters, an ACS Publication, at the University of Pennsylvania, and she has worked in global program strategy and development. Becky holds a BA in French and Comparative Literature from Bryn Mawr College.
Alfonso Gonzalez, Ph.D.
Regional Sales Manager for LATAM, CAS
Alfonso has been with CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) since August 2016. His initial role was as a Sales Manager for Mexico and he is now the regional sales manager for LATAM. Before joining CAS, Alfonso worked for two years as Technology Director for Tekniset de Mexico, a compounder of specialty polymeric materials. He also worked four years as Market Developing Manager and Managing Director of Macro-M, a startup company of KUO group in nanomaterials and nanotechnology and other four years as Managing Director of CID (R&D Center of KUO Group in Mexico). Alfonso holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico.
Juliana Garcia
Customer Success Specialist
ACS Publications Latin America
Juliana is the current Customer Success Specialist for ACS Publications Latin America, a division of the American Chemical Society. She holds a degree in Chemical Engineering, and has obtained both her Master’s and Doctorate in Food Science and Technology from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Juliana has served as a visiting scholar at the University of Messina in Italy, The Ohio State University in the USA, and the University of Seville in Spain. She has more than 10 publications in the area of sensory analysis and chemical study of food. Juliana has also been awarded the Fulbright scholarship and has participated in the ACS Summer School on Green Chemistry & Sustainable Energy 2023.
